Goals & New Years Resolutions

Goals; no matter how big, or small, that goal is important to continue growth as a person. It’s funny how the most simple of goals can take you to somewhere extraordinary, and as I look back, it was a simple, small goal that got me to where I am today. On December 26th 2011, exactly 2 years ago from this day, I laced up my Nike Free Run 3’s, the Livestrong black and yellow ones (also reminds me of a song, yea ah huh, you know what it is, black and yellow, black and yellow), and went out for my first run. My goal at that time was to live a healthy active lifestyle, and to be a positive influence in the world.

Fast forward to present day. Those two years have flown by, and over those two years, I’ve taken myself to somewhere I never even thought was possible. Today, December 26th 2013, I laced up my Nike Free Run 3’s once again, as tradition, to ring in a new year, a year of new beginnings, the clean slate as some may call it, with a new goal in mind. I wish to continue being a positive influence in the community, and a role model for the youth growing up today, but I also want to be the best. When I say the best, I mean the fastest marathon runner in Calgary, the fastest marathon runner in Alberta, the fastest marathon runner in Canada, heck why not, even the fastest marathon runner in the world. It’s something that doesn’t come over night, it will take years and years of devotion and dedication, and a lot of hard work, but one day it will come. Do I honestly think I can become the fastest marathon runner in the world? Yup, and here’s why. I believe in myself, and I believe that hard work and the right mindset can take you to a place you never thought you could go. I also become obsessed with completing my goals, even to the point where I go to the gym at midnight, or go for runs at 2am. Failure is not an option in my world, and anybody that tries to throw me off will be proved wrong.

Here’s where new years resolutions kick in. Everybody sets out a new years resolution, as small as it may be, don’t over look it for what it is. If you are still in the works of your new years resolutions, set yourself a small goal, or try something new. Doing that may take you to somewhere you never imagined. You may find the most joy out of a small simple goal, and that small goal may change your life, it may change the way you look at the world, and it may change the way you look at yourself. Setting up a small goal will set yourself up for accomplishment. Accomplishment will boost your moral, and it will give you a stronger drive to be a better person everyday. If you are making a huge new years resolution, set out a challenge to yourself that you may not think is possible. Set the bar high, believe in yourself, do what you love, and do everything in your power to accomplish your goals. Nobody likes a quitter.
